Characteristics
The sapwood and the heartwood are hardly different. The sapwood is a little bit wider and narrow, while the heartwood has a gold yellow, sometimes light brownish varying coloring at fresh cutting. It only turns darker a little. The wood has a beautiful shine and is in some way mottled, wavy or grained and therefore absolute decorative. A narrow irregular twist and peculiar deviation of fibres occurs. Clearly growth layers give the veneer image the streaky texture. The wood has a pleasant smell at fresh cutting, which disapwoodpears with drying. The wood has a fine, constant structure, however the inner part of the trunk has many defects and has rubber pockets which often lead to ring shakes.
