The sapwood and the heartwood are clearly distinguishable. The sapwood is narrow and colorless or whitish. The heartwood varies between light yellow brown to a middle brown, mostly with a reddish shimmer and it turns darker after some time. Like the European Oak, the structure of this wood is dependent on where it is grown. Wood produced from trees grown in the north are consistently fine-grained and smooth, especially good for veneers and interior decorating, where as wood produced from trees grown quickly in the southern provinces, is more rough and has wider annual rings.
